This continuing education session examines the evolution of functional assessment and intervention design in Applied Behavior Analysis, with particular focus on the transition from isolated contingency analyses to synthesized, contextually informed approaches. Participants will review the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) hierarchy, including traditional functional analysis and Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) with Interview-Informed Synthesized Contingency Analysis (IISCA), and consider their implications for clinical practice.

The session emphasizes how assessment outcomes directly inform intervention design, contrasting single-function models with contemporary skill-based treatment approaches that prioritize the development of skill based treatment (communication, tolerance, and cooperation repertoires.) A structured clinical decision-making framework is presented to support the selection of interventions based on functional relations and, contextual variables.
